"City of contrasts" Buenos Aires by TheWanderingCamel

We finally made it back to MrL's favourite city, part of a fantastic trip around Argentina that saw us come and go from the city as we travelled from north to south before making our way to Mendoza in the west and moving on to Chile. This time, the stay was longer, time enough to begin to really get to grips with the city -
and the tango dancers;
eat some great steaks - medialunas and empanadas too;
stroll down Florida -
and browse the stalls at San Telmo ....
It's taken a while to get around to writing this page. On arriving home I built pages about some of the other places we visited but hung back from Buenos Aires for some reason. There just seemed to be so much to be said, it's taken me this long to feel ready to come to grips with it. Let's start with the dance that defines the city. A young couple dancing the tango in Florida, the city's main shoping street, shoppers and a few tourists their audience - don't you love the assessing eye being cast over them by the young critic closest to them?

Brings back fond memories especially of the beef they serve there, so tender! ;-)
A little Europe flavor-a pink palace and a lot of sites in the streets. Thanks for the tour and the nice pictures & comments.
Super duper BA page. Truly an exciting city of contrasts. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, SL :)
This is where I want to go next (when we are abole to start travelling again). Even more so, having read your tips. The Mario Palanti building is extraordinary. Love it all...
What wonderful historic buildings and sculptures this beautiful city has. So much to see and do and I am sure there is more!
Wow! I definitely would love to visit this exciting city--so much to see & do--the tango is something I'd love to try if I was 40 years younger! The whole city-- minus the street thieves-- seems fascinating!
This appears to be a truly amazing city. I may have to take a week and absorb all of it.
The other period dressed soldiers are members of the 1st Infantry Regiment, also known as Patricios. They guard the Cabildo (the white colonial building that you described), just as they did after the revolution of 1810
Reads like a book and feels like a tour. Thank you for a beautiful and captivating page on Buenos Aires. I will make sure to follow your advice on many things, including the Art Nouveau tour! Cheers from NYC.
who needs a Fodor or Lonely planet guidebook, just use your tips for the best visit to BA ;-)))
