One of my Salzburg highlights is the trick gardens at Schloss Hellbrunn. You have to wait for the next guided tour. A guide takes people through the trick gardens. Where the fun begins is when he/she starts the trick fountains with no notice. There are plenty of signs warning you to keep your camera safely tucked away, and for good reason! I got wet, but luckily it was a hot day. The gardens also include a number of grottos, 'regular' fountains and a lovely town scene with lots of small wooden clockwork characters that move.
The Palace itself is interesting, but not on my 'must-see' list. Has some interesting rooms (Asian room, hexagonal music room, room with frescoes) and some interesting paintings and furniture.
The entrance fee includes entry to the Trick Fountains with a guide and entry to the Palace with an audio-guide. Adults E$ 8,50.
Open from 9am to 4.30pm (Apr + Oct), 5.30pm (May, Jun, Sep) or 6pm (Jul + Aug). Trick fountains are open in July and August until 10pm.
