""Almost like a lake"" Tasiilaq by gmg61

Tasiilaq Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 3 photos

Tasiilaq, 1.900 inhabitants, is the main city and capital of Eastern Greenland.
Its name comes from an Inuit word that means “Like la lake”, and it refers to the geographical location of the town, placed on the shore of a small fjord with a very small entrance, so that when you look at it you can think it’s a lake.
The name of the fjord is Kong Oscars Havn (King Oscar’s Harbour)

The whole town is on a rocky outpost overlooking the fjord from one side and the Arctic Sea and the Polar Stream from the other side. From the town centre you walk for 20 minutes up on a hill and here is- the majestic view of the grey, cold sea and the huge icebergs!

There are three hotels in the town and some B&B, a nice tourist office, located in one of the oldest buildings of the city, close to the post office and in front of the Town Hall. The tourist office is also a souvenir shop and an outdoor café (see my post for more details).

Tasiilaq is a good starting point for hikes and treks and for other ways of exploring the inland: dogsledges, motorboats.

Great photos of your visit to Tasiilaq. While it is a beautiful place, I don't think I would want to be there in the winter!
