Scuol is one of the most important cities of Engadina, the valley of the River Inn that flows parallel to the Alps from West to East. It's located at 1.250 metres above the sea and it's a nice town with many nice decorated stone and wooden houses. The town is an important centre for the Ladin culture. Ladin is a Romanic language (and culture) that's alive nowadays mainly in Switzerland and in some italian valleys. Ladin is the main language in Scuol area, so that most of the plates and shop signs are writte in Ladin; you'll find "Cuafför" for Coiffeur and "Restorant" for "Restaurant", "Bogn" for bath and so on |

| | The town is divided into two main parts, Scuol Sura (Upper Scuol) and Scuol Sot (Lower Scuol) and many other small villages around. |
In Scuol and around there are more than 20 thermal sources; 10 of them are used for drinking treatments abd the rest is used for thermal baths. Wellness has become (together with ski and summer tourism) one of the main activities of the area. There is a big and nice spa right in the centre of the town (see my tip for it) and there are other places where you can drink special mineral waters. | | | Another view of Scuol Sot |
