Sometimes it's better to travel then to arrive....

That's the case: M'hamid is only a small vllage of 2.000 at the edge of th Sahara, with a market on monday, and rests of the old vllage about 5 km's away. Nothing else's remarkable.

M'Hamid is a dot at the end of a long red strip. To get there from Marrakech yu have to pass the Atlas, climb up to 2.200 metres, drive along a road without shoulders and with a huge ravine down. Then you have t travel through Ouarzazate, pass the Draa valley between palm oasis, roses, oleanders, Kasbas, black mountains, stork nest on the minarets. Finally you arrive to Zagora, ad there is nothing to see there, only that big road sign that says that to go to Timbouctou you need 52 days camel ride. Tourists usually arrive here, shoot some pictures with the road sign and they are happy. Don't know much or dream too much about that dunes.

The Sahara is just 1 km away

But after Zagora the Hammada is waiting for you: hard, flat, rocky, inflexible. And still two passes. In the meanwhile the air is hot, persons along the road are wearing differently, their skin is darker.
After the second pass, abruptly the dunes, palm oasis, small villages completely different from the ones you were travelling through short time ago. That's the desert, baby.
You can't miss 'M Hamid. because the road ends and the sand track starts, because the sand dunes are all around you.
From there, there only a sand track: yu can either walk or camle ride to the desert, or drive, if you have an affordable 4WD.
The main road is made of sand, there are basic shops, a barber shop whose owner dreams about coming to work to Italy.
