One of the most beautiful city of Morocco, Marrakech has a peculiar character, recognised by the Moroccan itselves, who like to visit this city to get part of his medieval allure and to shop around in the big souq.

One of the most impressive monuments of the city, and one of the first to be seen when you arrive to the city centre from the airport is the Mosque of Koutoubia, originally built in the 12° century, with a 80 metres tall minaret that visible from almost every point of the city, perfect orientation point for the tourists who loose their way in the narrow street of the old city.

Passing through one of the many old city gates you enter the old city and strolling throught its streets you could end up in the Mellah (the Jewish district) but anyway you'll end up in Djamaa El Fnaa, a very big square that's a sort of 24 hour open air show.
North of the square you enter the souq, one of the biggest and oldest of Morocco.
The aer many other attractions in the city: the nearby palmeraie (a vast palm oasis), the Majorelle Garden, the Ben Yousse Madrasa, plus good restaurants and bars.

What surprised me a lot is the life of Marrakech, with local people walking and enjoying the fresh air of evening and often open to the contact with strangers.
