Lake Las Vegas is a $3.8-billion, 2,245-acre world-class residential and resort development 17 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. It will include up to six hotel-casinos and five golf courses, and master planned for 3,000 residential units.

Development of Lake Las Vegas was undertaken by Transcontinental Properties, Inc. in 1987. Over the next 20 years the project will evolve into a self-sufficient residential and resort community. Center stage at Lake Las Vegas is Nevada's largest man-made private lake, encompassing 320 acres with more than ten miles of shoreline. It shares the spotlight with another distinctive attractions, Nevada's first Jack Nicklaus signature championship golf course.

The two-mile-long lake at Lake Las Vegas has a maximum width of one mile and depth of 145 feet. Residents and visitors alike will enjoy swimming, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and wind surfing on the lake, as well as fishing for rainbow trout, catfish and largemouth bass.

Created by the construction of an eighteen-story earthen dam and bypass system, the lake will allow run-off from the Las Vegas wash to continue to flow directly into Lake Mead. Since the dam's completion in 1990, water from Lake Mead has been used to fill the lake. The dam, at 4,800 feet in length, required more volume of earth than the volume of concrete in Hoover Dam. Lake Las Vegas' water quality and fisheries consultant monitors the lake daily.
