poperinge and surrounding area

if you want nightclubs/noise/crowds,dont read anyfurther.my wife and i really had a fantastic holiday in Poperinge just wandering around the lovely town and meeting some of the nicest people you could wish for.there is plenty to see, we went in october when the hops are finished with but we had a great time finding our way through some quiet country roads to the St Sixtus Abbey, going to some of the fifty war graves around flanders .Poperinge is a wonderful place as a base for the flanders area and so convienient to the main road to Dunkirk (about a hour away) Ypres is a twenty min ride away and you really should try and get to the Menin Gate at 8pm every night/everyday in the year for the last post by the volunteer firemen from Ypres .the ceremony has been going on since 1929.this has to be the most moving moment in anyones life from where ever you hail from.Bush and Blair should kneel down in that spot once a month and consider what they have done in the name of oil.nothing changes in the minds of war criminals.Enough.try Poperinge and i really hope you get a lot of pleasure from the area like we did, thank you
