Jazz Record Center: Jazz CD Heaven!

This place is the Mecca of jazz recordings, books, and other paraphenalia. Used CDs are $10 and if you bring a discman you can listen while you browse. There are a lot of titles here that you won't see at Tower or Virgin. There are also records, posters, photos, and just all kinds of things related to this truly American art form. You have to buzz to get into the building and then you take the elevator up to the eighth floor where the store is located. Don't be shy if you have questions...the staff there know just about everything about jazz from Buddy Bolden to Wynton Marsalis.

During the holidays NYC is host to some holiday markets somewhat in the tradition of the famous Christmas markets in Europe. Some are indoors and some are outdoors. All contain various gifts for those special family members and friends. The products range from imports to locally produced crafts and the quality can vary. We found the items at the Vanderbilt Market held in Grand Central Station to have the best selection and quality items. But for a more holiday atmosphere, go to the outdoor market in Union Square. We also went to the Holiday Shops, part of Fetes de Noel in Bryant Park but found the quality of the products to be a bit on the low side. But the setting in and amongst large buildings and the skating pond nearby add to a great atmosphere. In order of preference:
