Fascinating and Captivating

by Hopkid - last update: Jan 4, 2007

Just don't go in the summer - muy calor!

Girls dressed for wedding photos near the Alcazar
We flew into Sevilla and grabbed a taxi from the airport to our hotel which was very centrally located in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, enchanting with its narrow and twisting streets, many of which are pedestrian only. The area was the Jewish Quarter following the Spanish Reconquista in 1292 when the last Muslim rulers were conquered. The area is filled with pretty plazas and wonderful tapas bars.

Sevilla is the home to the second largest cathedral in the world (after St. Peter's in Rome), the lovely former home of Muslim rulers, the Alcazar, flamenco, and great food (as you can see from the high number of restaurant tips)! The one negative during our visit was the heat. This year it got hot a bit early as we had heard that June was a nice time to visit. However it was in the 90s every day with a couple of days around 100 F! If summer is the only time you can visit this beautiful city, make sure you get a room with functioning air conditioning!

We like taking our time exploring a city and Sevilla was no exception as we stayed for two nights before heading to Granada and then returned for three more. We had a great time and didn't even get to see everything we had wanted to, but then the heat may have been part of the reason as we had to retreat a couple of times back to the comfort of our hotel room AC!

Pros:"Beautiful architecture, Alcazar, Giralda, tapas"
Cons:"Muy calor en verano!"
In A Nutshell:"A wonderful city!"

Excellent coverage of your stops in Andalusia. I'll be returning there in November, and use some of your recommendations. Thanks

More great tips, and another page well done. The food looks fabulous. I think we will be not be hungry in Spain.
