We finally took advantage of one of those 40 Best Deals that are listed in Budget Travel magazine each month. This one was listed as RT airfare from Washington, DC and 5 nights hotel for $499. After taxes and airport charges it still only came to just over $600. The flights were on Air France (not some cheapo charter service) and the hotel was right in the middle of pretty much everything so there wasn't a whole lot to complain about for the money we spent. More on airlines and the hotel later.

Hi Andy! YUmmmmm Those Italian restaurants sound so good. The leather goods must have been gr8 but being kidnapped to a Leather Factory - Yikes lol

This is one of my favorite places to shop!. You make a very good point: shopping at a place like this as opposed to the markets ensures you of getting the genuine article & not some cheap import.

It sounds like you got a terrific deal in Florence! Wish I had known about those vacuum packed truffles! The tartufo pasta we had in Umbrian (black truffles) was to die for, and I haven't found anything as good in the US!

What a fantastic deal you got there, I think we would have paid more than that from the UK! Brings back memories for me when I visited ??????? years ago :-)
