On the way to Machu Picchu

by Hopkid - last update: Mar 8, 2005

Once in a Lifetime

Plaza de Armas
In early 2001 our friend Cindy asked if we'd like to join her family on a trip to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We had always wanted to go and this was the perfect opportunity. So we took Cindy up on her offer of getting us Friends tickets on American Airlines and we were on our way to South America to live out a dream trip! We landed in Lima and spent a short night there before flying on to Cusco. Two days there to acclimatize to the altitude and then it was off on our hike. I've broken up this trip into chapters for Cusco, Pisac/Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu. Enjoy!

Great travelogue! Kudos to you for trying the cuy - I wasn't so brave. Did you get up to the ruins at Pisac, or just the market? I wonder how they compare to Ollanta, as we didn't have time for the ruins there before catching the train.
