Pittsburgh tends to have a so-so reputation with a lot of people. And hey, let's be honest - rightly so! I am just now back from being out in the city after being away for 15 months. The city is not dead. It's done. The downtown area is nearly a ghost town. At 9 am, there were barely any people on the streets. The parking garages are not full and you have no problem finding space. That'd be great if there was any good reason to go to that area. Oh yeah. The hostels in the city closed too. Can you believe it? Two hostels closed? The only new things going on are some new shopping centers around town. But it's all chain stores and very few unique storefronts. I was all geared up to go out and find additions to my Pittsburgh page, but it was so depressing seeing what has gone on that I just said forget it and went home. |

crewrower Wed Jan 25, 2006 09:30 UTC I actually think Pittsburgh is one of America's great cities. I'm not from Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania though. GO STEELERS! | mikelisaanna Sun Dec 4, 2005 17:21 UTC I used to eat lunch at Wholey's when I lived in Pittsburgh 25 years ago. It was had more character than the downtown restaurants. Thanks for the memories! | Pawtuxet Tue Nov 29, 2005 21:27 UTC Passed through Pittsburgh many times...guess I should try all their museums and gallery shows one day. Thanks for the tips. |
