Lake Modrac

Truth to tell, I have never been to the town of Lukavac itself. The reason this chapter exists is to tell about the lake Modrac, which is near Lukavac. Lukavac itself is very close to Tuzla, the capital of the Tuzla Canton. Since the Middle Ages the region was known for its deposits of salt and many toponyms have the word "salt" in their root. The name Tuzla itself is supposed to come from the Turkish for "salt"
I was surprised to learn that lake Modrac is actually man-made, because it looks like it has been there forever. You can have a walk along the shore, drive around the lake and through the neighbouring villages or simply have a beer at one of the restaurants next to the water. To me personally the sight of the placid waters of the lake in an early fall morining had a pleasant soothing effect.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Nice view
  • Cons:You may have to fend off a couple of mosquitos
  • In a nutshell:An artificial lake has turned an otherwise boring place into a place you will like
