King's Bastion - Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park
King's Bastion

The original fortress here was built to protect France's colonies in the new world and to be a center for the huge fishing industry. It was capital of the new colony of Ile Royale but also helped defend France from Great Britain. The original fortress was destroyed but was rebuilt beginning in 1961 to the way it looked in 1744 so it gives a great view of life at that time. The Kings Bastion with it's clock tower from France dominates the village which spreads out below it.
