Details of my Paris Trip | Exploring Paris on foot, Alexander III Bridge. |
In Feb. 2000 I went to Paris for the first time. I have wanted to go ever since the 9th grade when I had a French teacher who was from Paris. A friend found a package deal on the internet for 7 days, 5 nights in Paris including airfare for $633. So 4 of us went together. Our hotel was convenient to the subway system and the package deal included transfers to and from the airport. It was a dream come true. I returned to Paris in October of 2006. This time is was part of a tour with the company Cosmos and was the first part and last part of our tour. On this return trip I saw many of the same things seen the first time but also added a few more. And you can't go to Paris too many times. |

| | A Treasure House of Art Paris is a treasure house of art beginning with the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay. There are also so many other wonderful art galleries found here. But the city itself is art with all of the statues and architectural styles, beautiful cathedrals and bridges. One caution is to check opening and closing times carefully for the galleries because some are quite restrictive and some were closed while we were here. |

| | Getting Around and Food in Paris Paris was not hard to navigate with a guidebook and a map. The metro is fairly straightforward and not hard to figure out plus many guidebooks tell you which tube stop you need, although some stops were a long way from where we wanted to go. We ate lunch from street vendors or bakeries which had delicious selections including sandwiches. At night we found restaurants but found that some are not open until quite late. We were tired from our day of walking and wanted to go to bed early. |

A pity I was still teaching and not retired. I know we will see Les Invalides and a trip to the top of Samaritaine sounds great. Good tips, Anne. |
