Where the green hell starts

Puerto Bermudez, in the Peruvian Amazonas, could be the perfect gate to enter the big jungle.
If you are thinking about comming here prepare yourself for a hard journey. First of all 6 hours by bus from Lima to La Merced, where the road finishes, and after that other 6, 7 or 8 hours throught the jungle in a 4x4 pick-up.

Once in Puerto Bermudez there are a pair of hotels, but I would recomend Humboldt House. Jesus Lopez de Dicastillo, his owner, is one of those persons who are in this narrow line between madness and geniality. He traveled for about 17 years, worked for the basque TV and wrote some books. After that, 9 years ago, decided to build his own hostal in this forgotten place.
I'll never forgot his speeches under the light of the candels.
Jesus organices guided tour to the jungle and to the comunities for a good price.
