Cairo- crowds, cars and cafes galore

Cairo streets

gold mohur in bloom
A noisy , bustling city that never seems to sleep. It is fascinating and frustrating at the same time. There has been an attempt to provide shade in the newer areas by planting trees and making green squares. At different seasons the trees that are in flower at the time bring some colour to the neighbourhood. The jacaranda, the gold mohur and other trees produce changes in the colour- purple, red , pink......
Pyramid of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza

No page about Cairo would be complete without including the Pyramids of Giza.
No matter how many times you see them, they remain awesome. The amount of work that went into building them, the complexity of their design and the difficulty of cuttting and manipulating the huge blocks makes the mind boggle.

The lifeblood of Egypt

The Nile is Egypt. Without it the country would not exist. For thousands of years life depended on the Inundation, the annual floods , that brought silt from further south. Now all that has changed since the construction of the Aswan High Dam,
But, the people of Cairo still enjoy the river. Craft sail up it all day and night, people walk or sit beside it.
And once you drink from its water, you are sure to return.

Islamic Cairo is well worth visiting. How can one town have so much, and so different culture. Thanks for sharing. Great new restaurant tips. The Pharaohs is very good, we agree.
