After visiting Turku and Helsinki we arrived to Kotka, at a few kilometres from Saint Petersburg. We travelled up the country crossing the Karelia lakes until we reached Rovaniemi, within the Polar Circle, and entered Laponia. We saw reindeers and long files of wooden logs of about half a kilometre long descending the rivers, and Laponia people with their traditional clothes. Indeed that is a different world inside Europe.
