Asperg, Hohenasperg and the celtics Asperg is a small and quiet town with about 15.000 inhabitants. It's known of it's castle on top of the mountain of Hohenasperg. The Hohenasperg is a mountain with aprox. 100 meters high. On the Hohenasperg the celtics first build a castle, because of it' strategic use. In newer times, the King of Würtemberg has build the castle into a prison 18th century, primar for political prisonor. the mountain is belived to be the highest in Gemany, because "you can get up in half'n hour, but you need 20 years to come down". |
What to do: - The walls of the castle Hohenasperg can be visited (No fee). You have a nice view over the "Unterland" (The area around). - The "Kleinaspergle": A Gravehill from a celticlord (No fee). - Near by is the beautiful "Monrepos", a barock castle with an artifical pond, where you can rent in the summer a boat (No fee to visit the garden). - Or you go to the "Blühendes Barock" in Ludwigsburg, a must see. A big barock castle with gardens around ( Fee in the summer, in wintertimes free entrance). It is possible to visit the castle (Fee) |
