what is at Saharna?

Saharna is a small village located on the bank of Nistru River (approximatively 110km north of Chisinau) and is one of the most popular travel spots in Moldova. The natural surroundings are too beautiful to be described and this is one of the main reasons tourists deicide to spend the weekend here. Besides, this small village is full of historical and natural spots: the cave monastery, tradional moldavian monastery, Geto-Dacians fortress, suspended bridge, 22 waterfalls, the natural canion, natural caves and abandoned quarries.

The Grimidon Rock

From the rocky top called "The Grimidon Rock" an exceptional panoramic view is discovered. This is a marvelous landscape you will not forget - the rocky gorge of small river Saharna covered with a colourfull forest, the lines of the Nistru river banks, the Monastery and the Saharna canion. This is the starting point for your travels in Saharna. The locals don't remember the legend of this rock which existed as some remember, but every morning looking at this castle-like-rock they say: "The Grimidon is on it's place - everything is on it's place." From "The Grimidon Rock" miles of underground tunnels lead throgh the rock which are the abandoned quarries.

Natural Reservation

More than 1000 kinds of plants can be found in Saharna which is also a small natural reservation under the government protection. Small 16-km long Saharna river along its course formed a natural canion which is 185-200m. high in some places. Also every 30 steps the river flows into small waterfalls and cascades (22 at all). The biggest waterfall is called "The hole of a Gypsy", being 4,5 meters high and 10 meters deep.
