One Great State - Many Terrains

RedRover outside Ouray
"Why would anyone afraid of heights visit Colorado?"

That's a question my husband's coworkers asked him after our trip. A brief explanation as to why there aren't more pictures of the extreme portions of our off road journey, where one vehicle width paths creep along the side of the mountains and climb to the clouds...was that I was way too busy holding on for my dear life to let go and take pictures. And he's right...but this is a land not to be missed.

The reason I needed to brave the heights and cliffs??? The 2007 National Land Rover Rally

Montrose, Colorado was the staging town for this year's Land Rover rally. The trail heads were spread out in all directions from there...exploring terrain from desert to mountain peaks.

It's what we came for, we hit trails outside and above the towns of Ouray and Silverton.

Just 6 miles outside of Montrose, we visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

More to come...
Spruce Tree House in Mesa Verde

Ancestral Home of the Puebloan People

Since our off-road vehicle wasn't running well, we explored with Nigel, my Rover. We visited the Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep and Mesa Verde National Park. In these areas, visitors can see the ruins of what was a "metropolis" of villages, cliff dwellings and communities...dating from 700 AD...and "mysteriously" became uninhabited in the 1300s.

More to come...
