Best Eastern Shirak - Yerevan: An older Russian Shirak Hotel Yerevan Review

Well.... was going to stay at a homestay Johnny Omani recomended but my trip was a bit last minute and did not get a chance to confirm a room. My flight got in at 4 am from Prague and after clearing Imigration and Customs at the airport I did not feel like waiting much in the city to chech my email to look for the homestay. Anyway this is a typical Russian hotel as far as I am concerned. The service is not going to win any awards but they do speak a bit of english at the front desk and they have a tour office to arrange tours that opens up in the business office on Tuesdays which was a day late for me.

Unique Qualities: Bathroom was spotless even though my air con did not work. The elevators are a bit old and small. I wondered if the cable was going to snap as one of them jerked up and down when it came to my floor. Overall if you need a place to stay it is good for a night even though I think a homestay would be a better use of money. The Meg Hotel is the same price and a better value if you want a hotel.

Marriott Armenia Hotel Yerevan: A bit of Americana Marriott Armenia Hotel Yerevan Review

I guess if you are staying here you probably do not need VT much as you will be able to afford a personal package tour. I only stay at these when on company business. They are reliable and consistent. This hotel is right in the heart of the city and it is a 5-15 min walk to most points of interest in the city.

Unique Qualities: While I did not get a chance to try it out this place has everything you would expect.

Hotel Meg: Armenian Boutique Hotel Meg Review

I decided to give this place a try. Normally I would opt for a cheaper option but due to the short duration of this trip I said what the heck. It is a bit small with only 7 rooms and one two room suite but you cannot beat the service for the price in Yerevan. They provide you with free mineral water both gas and no gas plus fresh fruit every day in the price of your room in addition to breakfast and daily printed news in 10 languages. The rooms are spacious and clean as can be.

Unique Qualities: I liked the place because unlike some of the other former Soviet style places in the city, the staff here really did their best to be accomidating and friendly. The hotel is realitly new so it has the clean smell feel that I appreicated after wandering around the sometimes hot and dusty Yerevan during the day. The hotel is a bit hard to find and most cab drivers will have a tough time ask the staff for directionswhen you call them. It is behind a medical clinic on the upper Jrashat One. It is a 10 min walk to the Opera House.

Directions: From the Opera House head up Mashtot's Ave. When you get near the top of the street about a 1/4 mile or so as it curves right you will see the Grand Candy shop on your right. Make a left at the small alley.
