Mexico city has been my home for so many years, so if you would like to visit it - please feel free to ask anything, I'm sure I'm the one.
Mexico is a very beautiful country, from the very north until the deep south. Mexico city is located in the middle part of the country, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes.
According to history, Mexico city (Tenochtitlan) was founded in 1345 by the Aztecs, who moved across the country from the Pacific shores when they found the sign of their God Huitzilopochtli. This sign was: an eagle eating a snake over a nopal (cactus). So after looking for it, they settled and build the city and waiting for the becoming of Quetzalcoatl.
The city was built over the lake with an ancient technique, that nowadays you can still find it in Xochimilco where, the only way of transportation still being the canoes along the small channels. Today, one can recongnize this places in the Zocalo, that in the ancient times was the main plaza to honour their gods and religions with high pyramids.
After the Spanish conquest, the different temples were destroyed and over the same temples the catholic churches were built in order to impose the Catholicism as the only religion. You can still find some original ruins in the city in Templo Mayor next to the Cathedral.
So, above history, Mexico city still being a good place to visit. If you are interested in history, maybe you can star your trip here, visiting the ruins and museums in the city, and of course the ruins outside in "Teotihuacan", these tend to be very impressive for a first pyramid experience.
The city is a real cosmopolitan place, you can find people living in the city from so many nationalities, and I can say that the city day by day grows with so many different people who makes it even much more interesting and funny.
As the city is so big, I wont lie to tell you and tell you that transportation in the city is easy. Even for people who drives, is so complicated and stressful to be stuck in a jam, however the subway (metro) still being the best option to move from one place to another.
The National Parks are starting to become common places to visit, they tend to be outside the cities, deserve to be visit. Nature in the city is not far from Chapultepec forest wish is a good place for a stroll or biking trip in summer.
Another thing that I love of living here, is the nightlife. Every weekend you can find a new brand and nice place to go out and spend a great time if you dont like routine, but if you do, your favourite places wont go anywhere just give a try, it is really worthy.
So, if you like enough my country, Im sure you wont like to go far away and will come back very soon, trying to look for the best way to stay longer as you, mostly as many of the people I have met all around the world.
Give a try You will love it - and don't forget to check out the main tips!
HAVE A GREAT TRIP AND WELCOME!
