What a coast line...

Lighthouse at Point Reyes, California, US
My idea for a day out north of San Francisco was to see some of the shore line. In a book I found a photo of a view over the steep cliffs of Point Reyes, which fascinated me. So I took the car and drove the HW 101 through SF, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and continued on HW1 towards Inverness. Around there the signs already point out Point Reyes. Now it is still several miles to drive, and it still takes its time to reach the destination. But all the region has its charm with breathtaking views over the wide open landscape.
My first destination was unplanned. I wanted to see the lighthouse, but took the wrong street and ended up at Drakes Beach. This area located in the Drakes Bay is a historical area. It received its name from Sir Francis Drake, who is believed to have stranded here and had first contact to the natives. Based is this believe on a coin found in the closer region dating to the time of Sir Francis Drake. In the visitor center at the Drake Beach you can have a look at an exhibition explaining the history of this man.

After having a look at the Visitor Center I continued further to check out the lighthouse. This was really worth the trip, not just the lighthouse itself, but the whole area around it: nice views over the coast line, watching sea lions and the lighthouse located on a huge rock above the wild sea.
