During one of several business trips throughout 2007 my boss and me try to find something to do for the weekend. As we both like hiking and I have seen this National Park in the internet, we decided to do a daytrip here. The Pinnacles National Monument consists of the remains of an ancient vulcano. Over a large area the hard inner magma channels could resists the erosion by wind and water. Nowadays these rocks form a spectacular scenery for those who love beautiful landscapes.
To visit the park you have two possibilities. There is one entrance on each side, west and east. The one on the east side is the main entrance and you will find a visitor center here. You will not be able to drive from one side to the other without having a long drive. There is no interconnection between the sides.
On the internet presence of
Californias Parks (a really great resource!!!) you can have a look at proposed hikes and sights in the park. Based on this I would recommend you to decide which side should be yours to arrive at. Whatever you decide, you will enjoy your day. So check the
National Park Service for the Pinnacles National Monument.
If you plan to go through the caves, bring a torch! Otherwise you will have problems!
