"Kiiminki - The rapids of Kiiminkijoki " a Kiiminki Travel Page by gubbi1

Who could have thought that there is this great place so close to Oulu... Just about 20 km from downtown Oulu you can reach the rapids of Kiiminkijoki (Kiiminkiriver). Especially during the melting periode of the snow and ice this place is pretty impressive. In case you will be there at good weather, you might feel for a barbeque at one of several barbeque places. In case it is a busy day like the day on which I have been there, you will surely be able to share thefire with someone who is already there.

The recreation are consists of two islands, each connected to the riverside of the parking place by a bridge. On the bigger island there is a tupa in which you can buy cafe. They have tables outside for you to enjoy the fresh air and to see the rapids.

During my brothers visit in Oulu I came here again with him and experienced a much changed nature. With summer everything turned much greener. Grass and bushes grew extremely. The much lower water allowed us to reach parts of the island which had been not accessible during spring when the melting ice and snow caused much higher water.
