Pyhä-Häkki is one of the smallest Finnish National Parks but offers a great view into a real old growth forest. At the entrance you can read about the park and its nature. From here there are options for circular trails of different length. Unfortunately for me the weather changed on my roadtrip through the Southern half of Finland, so that I had to minimize my hike to a small loop of 3 km. At least a glimpse of the nature in Pyhä-Häkki opened up to me.
Reading the very well organized webpages of the Finnish Nature Parks Authorities tells that during the time when Finnish forests were devided to people in the 18th century nobody wanted to have the land of this nowadays National Park. This was due to the fact that no waterways were available allowing to carry away logs of wood nor the wet swamps were suitable for agriculture. So the land was owned by the state. Some of the trees of the area Mastomäkki were cut away anyway later as they were perfect in length and form to use them as poles for large sailing ships.
From 1912 on some parts became protected, later in 1938 it was proposed to make the area a National Park, which then became reality in 1956. Thanks to all this you will be able to enjoy a very untouched forest habitat with a beautiful swamp. Maybe you like to join me on the three kilometers through this small but nice National Park.

Above on the main photo there is the path which leads through the old growth forest.

Below you can see the entrance building to the park with an information board telling about the park.

The photo at the bottom shows the swamp area.
