Välkommen till mina Göteborg sida!
In march 2005 I have visited my good old Göteborg. This is the place, where I stayed two and a half years between 1996 and 2000. I took part in a Masterprogramm on the Chalmers Tekniska Högskola. During my life in the studenthouse I had lots of teachers helping me to get into the community of swedish speaking people. Sitting together in the evenings in the kitchen, drinking tea and having smalltalks was beside partying a great experience during sparetime.

On my visit in march I was saying hello to those friends which are still left in Gothenborg. Also I was here to take photos, what I unfortunately didn't do when I was there first.

As you can see on the photo it was pretty cold in Gothenborg (at the arrival day about 14 degrees Celsius below zero), but please do not think it is like this all the year round. I had a perfect summer with temperatures at about 30 degrees and an ocean with 20-25 degrees. In my opinion Sweden is a must on the travelplan! I guess this trip was not the last one....

Finally to finish my intro to my Sweden photos I have to say a reeeaaaally big THANKYOU to my friends Mikhail, who unfortunately now left but greatly did his PhD, and to Jörgen, who was playing for Val Xalino and by this gave me a happy last evening in Göteborg. Both made my stay a highlight again.

Also check out the following two places. They belong to this trip, but I excluded them because of space problems. Both places are in the outskirts of Gothenborg not far away of the center:

Stora Amundön
(The two last letters of which the first might cause problems, is swedish and means 'The island')

Coast at Göteborg

At the outskirts of the town there is a beautiful part of the Swedish west coast. You can find lots of rocks along the coastline, partly forming bigger islands.

Avenyn, Göteborg

The Avenyn is the major road in town. At night there is a lot happening here. A lot of pubs and restaurants make people start or end their long night here. Among people there are lots of opinions about the Avenyn. Some like it, some hate it and for others it depends on the situation. I count myself to the latter ones. I had nice evenings out here, but also in other areas of Gothenborg, like Linnegatan or Masthugget. Go and make up your own opinion!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Atmosphere, Cafes, People
Cons:Not enough time to be there more often...
In a nutshell:Big city with flair of a small city.

It looks like you had a great time in Goteborg. A pity that I didn't take a tour on the Älvsnabben boats. We obviously lived in the same area not too far from Masthugget. Fabulous page ...
