A hiking trip during my stay in Campania brought me from Ravello (see the entry for Ravello) to the town Amalfi. It is a very beautiful town clamped at the mountains, which reach directly to the coast. There are some hiking paths along the coast, of which the one through the valley of the mills (Valle dei Mulini) is best known. In former times here factories for the production of paper were located, which used to be an important industry here in the town. Still today there is a museum about paper at the entrance to Amalfi (from the side of the industrial sites). All buildings there are now ruins, which give the valley a little spooky atmosphere. From the harbour you can have a great view on the town Amalfi. You'll get an impression on how tight it is hanging on the mountain. | | |
