Walkern

The village of Walkern dates back to at least the Saxon times, with most of its original character still intact, but is unfortunately growing with new houses and estates - just like everything else in England.

The Saxon churcn is over 1000 years old, and is situated in one of the most oldest and picturesque places in the village.

The real countryside

For me there are 2 countrysides - the Real Countryside, and the Pseudo Countryside.

Walkern is Real. It has hills, meadows, woods, streams, cottages, and lots of wildlfe.

Any place in Cambridgeshire however, is Pseudo Countryside. Yes it has fields etc - but not the sort of fields you can stroll through or picnic in - they are agricultural, and may as well be developed land :o/

Witch of Walkern

Jane Wenham was the last witch to be tried in England in . This is a fascinating story details of which can be found here...

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Gorgeous Countryside, Loads of History
  • Cons:Getting bigger each year, and will soon be swallowed up by Stevenage.
  • In a nutshell:A proper english village.
