Pathum Thani is a neighbouring province of Bangkok. It is situated on the Chao Phraya basin with plenty of canals and orange plantations. Its original name is Mueang Sam Khok, which was founded during the Ayutthaya era. It was the settlement for the Mon people migrating from Mohtama (in Myanmar) over 350 years ago. In the year 1815 when King Rama II made a royal visit to this area, the inhabitants offered him plenty of lotus flowers which is the origin of the present name.
The Pathum Thani Town is only 46 kms. from Bangkok. It occupies an area of 1,525 square kilometres and is administratively divided into 7 districts (Amphoes): Muang Pathum Thani, Lat Lum Kaeo, Sam Khok, Thanyaburi, Nong Suea, Khlong Luang, and Lam Luk Ka.
The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture located at Khlong Nueng Sub-district in Khlong Luang District of Pathum Thani Province. The Museum features the way of life of Thai people who are connected in some way with agriculture. So it became a new tourist attraction near Bangkok. The showcase of major achievements in agriculture and agricultural technologies in Thailand was held there.
The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture was built in honor of His Majesty the King by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his accession to the throne in 1996. It covers an area of 200 areas, comprising nine buildings. Each building displays agricultural activities in various fields such as forestry, fishing, agro-industry, land reform, irrigation, cooperatives. The main building is designed to demonstrate royal activities in agricultural development such as royal rainmaking, His Majesty the King’s “New Theory” concept, Chitralada Royal Project, and Royal development study centers.
Modern light-and-sound techniques are applied to present various exhibits on display to make them lively. Visitors may seek useful information by themselves from computers installed at the museum. Outside the museum can be found demonstrations of growing flowering and decorative plants and several varieties of trees. Models of the living conditions of Thai farmers in the four regions are also put on show. There is a recreational area and a large parking lot for hundreds of cars. Visitors to the Museum of Agriculture will learn a lot about the history of Thai agriculture. The museum is open every day except Monday, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Admission is free.
His Majesty the King’s numerous initiated projects reflect his deep concern about the well - being of the people. Since the majority of Thais are engaged in agriculture, His Majesty takes an active interest in agriculture development. Recognized as the Agriculturist King, he is committed to sustainable development for a secure future for all, as shown by the inspiring ideas and concrete examples from the royal Initiatives, the Royal Projects, and the Royal Development Study Centers in different agricultural areas in Thailand.
