We spent our Christmas and New Year's holiday in Kailua. A laidback community with lots of amenities, Kailua certainly made a great temporary home. The fact that the weather here is 20-30 degrees warmer than the Bay Area winter was also a big plus. Being on the windward side of Oahu, Kailua is great for all sorts of water sports, including windsurfing, kite surfing (exciting just to watch), and boogie-boarding. I am naming just a few, of course. It's only about a 30 minute drive from Honolulu and Waikiki beach for the higher-paced nightlife too.
