The Seriously Spiritual area of New Mexico

Northern New Mexico has a religous
sincerity that is unique and generally unaffected by materialistic motivations. Chimayo, Truchas and Las Trampas have wonderful adobe churches. The area is beautiful. Truchas was the little town that Robert redford chose for his movie, "The Milagro Beanfield War" which is now on DVD. The townspeople were accurately portrayed. Hollywood built their own church for the movie and tore it down after filming was completed. The real church is seen here in the picture. You can drive up the main street of Truchas and miss the church if you're not careful to look beyond the buildings along the street. The main street also leads to the mountains where there are areas to hike and picnic in the national forest. Be very respectful of private property and travel well supplied as provisions may be hard to purchase in this area. Religion is sincere and also private. I can feel spiritually renewed by simply driving through this stretch of road, from Chimayo through Truchas and Las Trampas to Picuris Pueblo, state highway 76.
