Restaurant Name: Kavarna Slavia
This cafe has been a favourite haunt of the city's writers, actors & dissidents since the days of the First Republic & the walls are adorned with famous peoples pictures who frequented the cafe. We popped in here after the theatre for a cocktail, although we were not all that impressed with the service as the waiters were unfriendly. On a previous occassion I have had some wonderful cake here & the commom czech tea with rum. There is a chap tinkering on the piano in the background
Favorite Dish: cheesecake

U Mecenase: U Mecenase - Traditional food

Restaurant Name: U Mecenase
We had dinner with VT'er Roggeveen (Walter) & his friends, he had reserved a table which was wise as it is a popular place with its historical displays. The place's name is translated as the Philanthrophits & is an anciet wine cellar. The furniture is typically Old Czech. I had the Goulash (Prague executioner style) which came with potatoe pancakes, Rich had the Bohemian plate whist the others tucked into the stuffed duck. The duck came with dumplings which are bread like & fairly stodgy & fattening. We then had flambe dessert of ice cream, blueberry crepes flambe & fruit salad with ice cream. Bread came with the meal automatically & you are charged a coverage. The food was good & the company even better

Mount Steak: Amazing steaks

Restaurant Name: Mount Steak
With 60 steaks to choose from how can you go wrong!! There is a wide range of beef steaks all 200gr but you can order a larger steak & pay an extra amount accordingly (Rich upped his steak to a 300gr) In addition to Beef there is also Ostrich, Kangaroo, venison, pork, alligator & some fish steak. So if you perhaps would like to be adventurous this is the place The restaurant is in a cellar & the lighting is dim with mirrored mosaics lining the wall The wine list is fairly good we opted for Czech wine which is reasonable & very good. The steak was incredibly tasty & the staff were friendly, I suspect they are students.
Favorite Dish: I had a 200g steak with chanterilly mushrooms, onions & vermouth Rich had a 300gr steak for a real man chillies with gold tequila this is flambed. For dessert I had raspberries inside peach halves with ice cream & Rich had the tirumisu

Restaurant Name: Olympia
This pub is part of the Urquell brewery chain & serves hearty food at reasonable prices We both had soup, mine was a rich tomatoe with herbs & creme freche while Rich had potatoe soup presented in a bread bowl. Then I had a pork escalope with potatoes which was huge, Rich had juicy chicken with mash. Both main courses were under 170kr. We tried the local beer of course with our meal.

Restaurant Name: Klub Architektu
The restaurant is dimly lit so dining in the day will still appear as night. There is a large selection to chose from to eat here. The menu is a bit on the pricey side but some excellent traditional dishes. They also have a large array of wines
Favorite Dish: I did not really enjoy my dessert it was rather dry

Restaurant Name: Cafe Beirut
We found this place by accident whilst looking for a place to have coffee & a light bite. The ambience was wonderful with lots of fabric adourning the chairs & walls - a bit middle eastern. The owner was an excellent host & chatted with us on numerous interesting subjects. We were able to enjoy a few games of chess & backgammon, the sets were elaborately carved.
Favorite Dish: We tried some amazing cheese sandwich

davesut Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:18 UTC Hi Jo, these are great tips, very informative and some history as well although you may have ruined the end of the book that I began reading over Christmas about hiding in that crypt.
