First day of the VT Copenhagen meeting adventure I was very excited about my first trip to Copenhagen & booked tickets for Donna Acirfa & myself with Sterling airlines on Claus¡¦s recommendation. When we arrived at Copenhagen airport it seemed to take us forever to get to the exit but get there we did. I always draw my cash out at the ATM which is the cheapest option so imagine my dismay when my card was spat out & Donna¡¦s was accepted. The ladies at the ATM counter were very helpful & I managed to draw money out with them for the same transaction fee. Next was finding the ticket counter for the train, staring us in the face but yet hidden to our view ¡V so a couple of questions later we were pointed to the rather obvious ticket booth. Our train ride was bliss in an airconditioned carriage & then we decided to take the scenic walk to the hotel along the canal. We were late meeting the others for dinner so decided to take a rather expensive cab ride. We arrived mid belly dance at the Sultan¡¦s Palace, she had the room enchanted with the sway of her hips. I met Tartu2005(Li) & her son Afredo, Kathynyc, The View(Allan), Rexbibendi (Markus) for the first time as well as seeing old friends Razmatac(Raz), Rhineroll(Win), Roggeveen(Walter), Jules H& Rob, Poons(June), Rusket(Marit)& Backpackermoose(Elge).. Whilst we were enjoying our Turkish buffet, that naughty moose Elge was having a boogie with the belly dancer. Later that evening we met up with cachaseiro(Claus) & spent the rest of the evening at Tivoli. We had to push our way through the crowds so Win was our hero in creating a pathway for us to follow through. Allan, Donna, Win & myself got split from the rest of the gang but hey we both ended up drinking beer :-). Donna thought I needed to cool off & splashed me enthusiastically with water ¡V lucky for me I was wearing a white shirt!! (oops). We then caught the end of a dance routine on stage & met up with the others. Off for a few drinks at the trendy hotel The Fox where all the rooms are something special a bit off the beaten track. We took over the hotel bar until the wee hours of the morning & drank beer (some more then others). I believe the party continued to some dodge karaoke bar but we decided to head on back. |
| Canal trip starting at New Harbour |
| | Saturday - Lets go to the beach On saturday morning we went for a stroll through Orsteds park & encountered some rather interesting characters from afar. Next we headed off to the Workers museum to get a feel of how it was for the working class in 1930's & 1950's, it was quite an experience. Later that afternoon we strolled through the Latin quarter bumping into VT'ers as you do. Our meeting point for the hop on hop off canal tour was Nyhavn. We were joined by Sjalen(Charlotta), Keith, Alice, Igraine(Ingrid) & JRU(Jesper). There was a very low bridge on the way out of Nyhavn canal & we all had to duck to avoid decapitation, perhaps the viking horns would have scrapped the ceiling. Our first stop was to the Opera house to enjoy some champagne & toast our Danish VT hosts. Then onto the trendy Copenhagen beach club for some sol & lots of sun. I realised that I was starving at around 6pm after skipping lunch. We got very used to playing musical bumps all standing up to get the boat back & sitting down when we realised it was the wrong one. Murphys law was when we called 3 cabs the boat arrived & Claus steered us to safety from the angry cab man hehe :-) (I'm sure he coins it there) Allan, Donna, June & I decided to walk towards Orsteds park where we were having the bbq. On the way Donna managed to get herself looking like dirty girty (see general tips for why). Allan prepared some wonderful salads & barbequed the chicken & sausages for the hungry VT'ers. We were joined by LK & Flying Kiwi Booze was flowing & many stayed in the park until midnight when they staggered to the Fox to drink more. Walter, Allan, Donna, Marit, Elge & I went for a stroll around the medievil part of the city with Allan who is a pretty knowledgable guy. It was in a coffee bar that Jo & Elge revealed their identities as Supermoose & SuperJo!! Back at the Fox - yes more drinking was taking place |
| Donna & Elge take a load off |
| | Sunday split Donna & I decided to do separate things on sunday morning, she went to Karen Blixen's house in North Zeeland & I met up with Walter & we saw the Rosenberg Castle and walked in the Botanical Gardens. Later we all met up at the black box ibn Radhus Plads, even Donna found us!! Then a quick VT snapshot with the remaining survivors, also posing for the chinese tourists to snap us famous people on their cameras. Then we sauntered off to enjoy some lunch at vegetarian restaurant Riz Raz. We dashed off early from lunch with Allan who gave us a guided tour around Christiana which was a great insight in to their ideals & commun way of life. Sadly thereafter it was time to say goodbye to Copenhagen central & frantically rush around the airport to purchase last minute souvenirs. We were suprised that we could not purchase duty free alcohol when travelling back to the EU. When I finally got home from Gatwick to a hot & humid London I curled up into a little ball & fee fast asleep zzzzzzzzz. Thanks so much to Razmatac, The View & cachaseiro for organising such a great day |
