Robertson land of wine and roses Our family has spent a considerable amount of time in Robertson and surrounding areas falling in love with its valleys and rustic charms. The town is well known for it's tree-lined streets and colourful gardens, vineyards are banked with beautiful roses, columns of red and yellow cannas as well as bright bougainvilleas
My sister got married on Pat Bush's nature reserve and she sketched the robertson valley on her invitation. We enjoyed spendid wine from the surrounding areas which include Ashton's Zandvliet, Robertson's van Loeveren & Bon Courage.
I would suggest being based in either Montagu or Robertson and exploring the surrounding countryside areas. The majority of the wine farms in this area are open to the public for wine tastings mostly the tastings are free or a small charge refundable on purchase. The cheese, home to Bonnita, and dried fruit is superb in this area.
Located in the heart of the R62 outside Cape Town the other side of DuToit kloof tunnel (toll pass) |
Montagu has natural hot springs Montagu is fairly close to Robertson and a typical rural village town. I have stayed here on numerous occasions. Our company had a team building event here which involved canoeing down the Breede River, needless to say our team won!!
There is a natural hot mineral spa which makes this town a popular place for day trips. Also a highlight in Montagu is a tractor ride through the Langeberg mountains going to the summit and ending with a traditional potjiekos in the forested area. |
