Beautiful Albania

Albania is one of those countries that most people are not sure what to think about, and rightly so. Tied by almost 50 years of communist rule and after many wars and occupations, this small land carries the tragedy and hardship of life. Albania is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. In such a small stretch of land you can find mountains to climb, hilltops to hike, seas to swim, rivers to raft, fields to run, and a rich culture dating back to pre-helenistic. Albanians descended from the Illyrians, and they pride themselves in this....like most of the countries of this region. The people are very hospitable and friendly and the food is very very good. Nothing can beat lamb roasted in open fire from the region of Dukat (Southern village close to the city of Vlore). I love the rich culture, the language and history although it is mostly sad, it has brought these enduring people to this point.

haaa..strange to see someone from the US who knows about Dukat.. the tiny little village in Vlora, Albania. well, Albania sitll enbodies some of the values linked to poverty, i.e. simplicity and hospitability..
