This is a lovely little boutique resort built in classic Thai style. It is intimate and relaxing as there are only 21 rooms. We stayed at Baan Yin Dee 3 times in 2004 and have always been very happy with service, cleanliness and the wonderful staff. There are several choices of accommodation type available from poolside rooms to a Presidential Suite, details and virtual tours are on the website listed below.
Unique Qualities: This resort is built around 3 pools and one large spa. It is very quiet and relaxing. The resort overlooks Patong Bay. The semi-outdoor restaurant has great food and some of the tables have views of Patong too. There is a piano and singer in the bar/restaurant. **Update on the restaurant; please check my Restaurant Tips. A most warm welcome includes cool towels to freshen up with and a Baan Yin Dee non-alcoholic cocktail. The staff are so friendly and helpful, we have gained two very good friends from our times staying at this resort 2 years ago. There is a massage and laundry service, as well as free transport to Patong Beach.

Our stay at the pool villa was very nice. I really like to have privacy at any place I stay, so that's what I most enjoyed. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fun, really different, especially the orange frogs in there, we had two. They made for a great ambience, and very environmentally friendly solution to the mosquitos. The Evason prides itself on its ecologically sound management of its resorts.
Unique Qualities: I was impressed with the complementary mosquito repellent, after sun skin and hair care. A nice touch. Breakfast is included with this room and is served in the sensational Into the View Restaurant. Amazing sea views from there. This room includes a lot of walking, including steps, so if you have any problems with mobility, it would be best to avoid this one.

Now, this is the way to do a luxury holiday! We really enjoyed staying at this suite. We ended up here for 5 days after the pool villa. We kept extending until it was booked out by someone else. The pool is fantastic, it's lined with beautiful teal green stones which come from Bali. It is nice and warm too, as the villa we had got plenty of sun. I noticed that another one we looked at, two villas down, didn't get much sun, so that one probably wasn't as warm. The views beyond the pool are stunning too, as you can see from the first picture here. The sala to the side of the pool has comfortable lounges in it and is a great place to relax out of the sun. It has speakers in it too, so you can pipe your music through from the rooms. There is also an outdoor setting where you can eat meals.
Unique Qualities: The rooms are very comfortable, with a king size bed and plenty of room. There are both indoor and outdoor showers, which are a bit of a novelty. Both rooms have a bathroom and mini bar. You can either have both rooms as bedrooms or one bedroom and a living room. Breakfasts are included with this suite and are served at the Into the View Restaurant, which is a stunning place to sit and eat. Breakfasts are good, there are a wide variety of foods to choose from and you can even have a champagne breakfast, as Prosecco is also offered with the drinks. One of my favourite features was the outdoor bath. It is a large bath set into one of the lilly ponds, just off the bedroom. You can open the bedroom doors, so that it's almost like bathing in your room. We put on Michael Buble dvd's to watch from the bath and enjoyed a bit of a singalong, whilst enjoying our champagne, which was a lot of fun. Even more fun than that, was the little frogs that started chirping like birds. They are the cutest frogs I've ever seen. On the first night there was a frog on a lilly pad, chirping away, I began to make sounds back to it and the next thing I knew, it turned to face me and was answering. He ended up jumping onto my hand! I freaked a bit, dropping my champagne in the bath, but got used to it and was more prepared for other friendly frog visits.

I did not stay at the Patong Beach Hotel, but friends of ours always do. We visited them at their hotel last month, so I decided to take some photos to put up for VT. The hotel has a large pool area with bar area. It was quite pleasant to sit there for a while in the afternoon having a few drinks and snacks. The staff were very friendly. Our friends always choose room 1001 as it has great views of Patong Beach and the pool area from the two-sided balcony. I did think the rooms were small, but nicely kitted out with 4-poster bed and large glass doors which prevented the feeling of being closed in. The bathroom was tiny and only separated from the bedroom with shutters. The Deluxe room on the website link below looks like their room. I think the hotel is about 3.5/4 stars, but seemed clean and well equipped. I would be happy staying here if I wanted to be in the centre of Patong with the beach across the road.
Unique Qualities: All the facilities are listed on the website.

We stayed here for a couple of nights whilst we were finding longer-term accommodation at Boat Lagoon. The room was pretty basic, but nice enough I suppose with views of the gardens and pool area. The rooms are air-conditioned and also have a hairdryer in the bathroom. The bathroom had a bath and shower, although they had a bit of the typical' Asian mould' in them. There is also a safe in the room. Partying people in the middle of the night were a bit of a disturbance, as were the 7.00am starts by staff wheeling noisy trolleys past the room and the extremely noisy toilets flushing in adjacent rooms. This hotel attracts busload after busload of tourists. The coaches can be very noisy too and turn up at all hours of the night. Some of the staff were very friendly, others not too interested in helping.
Unique Qualities: Breakfast was complementary with the Garden Suite booking. The large pool area of the hotel is very attractive. Facilities include: Airport pick-up/drop-off (on request) Currency exchange (not good rates though) Baby sitting services Business centre Swimming pool Shop Tennis courts Boat charter Fitness centre Snooker Sauna

The Boat Lagoon Resort consists of three types of accommodation; hotel, apartment or condominium. The apartments overlook the marina, giving a nice view and feel. They are self-contained and basic, but fairly nice. They are available as one bedroom or two. All apartments are accessed by stairs, so be aware if stairs are a problem for you. Also, many Korean tourists on package tours stay here and are extremely noisy, often arriving at all hours of the night, so avoid these apartments if you're easily disturbed. Housekeeping is generally twice per week. Bookings are made through the hotel.
Unique Qualities: The Boat Lagoon Resort has many facilities including pools, tennis courts, gym, jacuzzi, sauna, restaurants, supermarket, banks, money exchange, bars and bakery. There is also a shuttle and taxi service.

The third type of accommodation at Boat Lagoon is the condominiums. These are two bedroom, self-contained apartments which are all located on the canals which makes them very relaxing. All accommodation types at the Boat Lagoon Marina entitles you to use all the facilities. Your expenses are rent plus electricity, water and housekeeping (you choose how often). Bookings for condominiums are made through the hotel or directly with owners. The first time we hired one, we stayed at the hotel until we walked around and found notices on the doors of a few apartments that were available. We were settled in the afternoon of the phone call. The lady that managed our condominium also had some others available. Her name is Hoong and can be contacted on the phone number below. Otherwise book directly with the hotel through their website or email address. We found it was actually cheaper through the hotel last time.
Unique Qualities: The facilites here include; pool, gymnasium, day spa, restaurants, bars and bakery.

Unique Qualities: The facilities here include a lovely pool with huge jacuzzi. The pool and gym are open until 9.00pm nightly. There is also a beautician/day spa. All facilities are available for use by those staying anywhere at Boat Lagoon. You sign in when you arrive and get a towel which you must also sign out. There are sunbeds by the pool/jacuzzi. One piece of advice I would give is to take a pair of thongs/flip flops to wear in the showers as they are not as clean as they should be. The washing basket is even full of mould.

Unique Qualities: I so often see people asking about taxi rates that I thought I would include this to give people an idea. The concierge desk has a range of services like all hotels, but I thought I would include the taxi rates to popular areas from Boat Lagoon. Bear in mind that taxi rates are the most expensive apart from limousines. A private driver can be hired for less. Check my other transportation tip for Phuket. Enlarge the picture to clearly see the rates.
