Every year on Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Ridgewood hosts the Fred D'Elia Ridgewood Run, a series of running races that are open to the public. The races include the Men's and Women's mile runs, the 5 km and 10 km runs (open to both men and women), and the 1 mile Fun Run, which is open to men, women and children. The Fun Run is especially entertaining, as kids of all ages run with their parents and classmates. Our daughter Anna's elementary school had dozens of kids running in it this year, and it was fun to cheer on Anna and her classmates as we saw them pass by. This was Anna's first year running the race, and she finished the mile in 12 minutes and 45 seconds. Not Olympic caliber, but not bad for a 7 year old.
Equipment: Running shoes, water, and sunscreen
