Ho-Ho-Kus is the town directly north of Ridgewood, the town in New Jersey (USA) in which we live. Ho-Ho-Kus is a cute little town of about 4000 people. Its unusual name is an American Indian name whose origin and meaning has been lost to history. Various theories as to the meaning include "red cedar", "running water", "whistling wind", and hollow rock". Ho-Ho-Kus's downtown area features a number of antique stores, as well as a few restaurants and other shops. The most famous building in Ho-Ho-Kus is the Hermitage, an old historic home in which Aaron Burr, one of the United States' early Vice Presidents, was married. |
