Steam trains, fishing and country park. England

Pool Hall fishing.

Pool Hall
Pool Hall is a sports fishery in Alveley in the heart of the rural Severn Valley.

Nearest large town(s)/city: Bridgnorth or Bewdley.

I, personally, am not a fisherman. I am just the man with the camera. As such, I neither condone nor condemn fishing as a sport.

Pool Hall is situated just outside of Alveley on the 'Midlands' side of the river Severn. A days fishing costs just £5 (you must hold a Severn Trent licence). There is also a small cafe on the site that is open daily where tea, coffee and light snacks may be purchased. Don't let the 'Portakabin' apearance here put you off. The cafe is clean and the staff are friendly.

Alveley is situated half way between the towns of Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. Once, Alveley was only known for its coal mine which spanned both sides of the Severn. Now that is long gone and the area where the colliery was is a country park, noted for its wildlife.

The Severn Valley Railway, a steam train preservation line, runs through the park on the 'Welsh' side of the river and has a station where passengers can alight to enjoy the country park. The Severn Valley railway runs from Bridgnorth down through stations at Hampton Loade, Alveley (country Park Halt), Highley, Arley and Bewdley to Kidderminster and a connection to the main national train network.
Severn Valley Railway.

Country Park Halt, Alveley.

This is the preserved steam train railway's station at the country park. Trains run from Bridgnorth through and calling at Hampton Loade, this, the Country Park Halt, Highley, Arley, Northwood Halt, Bewdley and Kidderminster (for national railway connections).
If you decide to board the train at this station, you should put your hand out in signal to the train driver to stop here as it is a request halt, and you pay your fare for your ticket to the Ticket Examiner upon request.
If you are alighting here after travelling from another SVR station, you should inform the Guard of the train that you wish to get off the train at this location.

Pool cue?

Mel, another friend, caught this lesser fish on the same day as the one caught by John. (See 'Sports Travel' section)

I, myself, am not a fisherman but I relish time spent in the countryside, so I went along with the camera. The only drawback was the main road traffic near by. Not so much tranquility here as some other of my favourite rural locations.

For more fishing, see the 'Sports_Travel' section and also the 'Travelogue' called More_fishing_at_Pool_Hall. (Links).
