A place visited by Accident. Nearest large town(s)/city: IS Granada.
In February 2001, four of us visited Nerja with the idea of eventually settling in the area.
Local Granada (Spanish) time: UK + 1 hour. Currency: the Euro Language: Spanish (Andalucian) We hired an apartment in Nerja and stayed for a month. (Well, two of us did. - The other two went back after just two weeks as Sheila thought Spain too primitive as she couldn't find a tumble drier!)Anyway the two of us that were left loved Nerja and all around it, and have been coming back here at every opertunity since. However, whilst we were all in Nerja, we hired a car to look at a villiage called Illora and drove via the mountain route to looksee. We arrived after a few pit stops for refreshments and looked around. Job done we headed back to Nerja via the motorway and Motril. The only thing was - we missed the turning for Motril and ended up going into Granada. Great unless you are lost and trying to find the way out. We spotted a road that looked promising - and ended up at the Alhambra palace and a dead end. The Alhambra palace was certainly worth seeing and I was not too sorry that we were diverted here by fate. Having asked a taxi driver where the road to Motril was, we actually ended up back in Nerja, albeit after night had fallen. Good fun when you're not used to driving on the RIGHT and in the dark.
