Nightlife Spot: The Andrea Inn : Prop. - Paul and Carole.
British Bar. A relatively new bar to open is The Andrea Inn. This used to be a German bar but is now very much a British Bar.
Opened on New Years day 2005, I was one of the first to go in. The owner being from Cornwall, I suggested Cornish pasties on the menu might be a good money spinner. He took me at my word and his pastries are now known all over Nerja. Not bad considering that his trade is a construction worker !
Beer is San Miguel on draught or in bottle and wines are the very tasty Liria Red (Tinto), White (Blanco) or Rose (Rosado). Guinness is available in 'widgit' cans.
A true cullinery story:
Pasties can travel well. A couple were in the Chapel bar, near to the Andrea and Mrs. X thought that her husband (Mr. X) had drank enough. He disagreed so she took his beer from him. He had just bought a pastie from the Andrea and it was wrapped in foil. Mr. X tried to regain his beer when his better half decided to hit him with the pastie. Still this did not work so she threw it at him. He ducked. Not being stupid, he took the oportunity and left, and we looked for where the pastie had got to. It had bounced off the front window and then disapeared. We eventually found it in someones jacket pocket where the rickochet had delivered it. So who says pasties can't travel. The pastie was unbroken and still edible as Mr. X found out when it was presented for his tea ! If anyone doubts this story, please ask at The Andrea Inn.Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: A favourite with British ex Pats. Good chat and a cosy feel. Theme: Cosy British pub. Definately worth a visit or two. Opening times:From mid day until late. Disabled notes:Level access but toilets are too narrow for a wheelchair. This bar has changed hands recently, but fear not. I know who the new proprieter is ---ME !

Nightlife Spot: Jago's bar : Prop. - Roger and Wilma.
International Cocktail Bar. Jago's (El Carrillon) is one of the few English bars that opens until late without the nausea of loud music. It is a favourite with other bar owners who unwind there after they have closed their own bar. Draught Guiness is sold here amongst other beers, and Roger, the owner, specialises in making cocktails as well. The bar is sometimes refered to as "Roger's".
A feature of the bar is the ginger tom cat which virtually lives there, and can be seen wandering around the bar most nights. The bar also has a pool table for those who like that sort of thing. Definately a "must go to" bar. No sport on TV in here though as Roger hates sport. Might be a place to get away from it , however.
Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere:A great place for meeting people and chatting 'til the early hours. Theme:Comfortable International, with laid back music. Opening times:From 7pm til about 3 or 4am. Closed Wednesdays. Disabled notes:Access from the front is level and a wheelchair could easily be got in, (even if the pavements are rather too narrow). Also the toilets are large enough as well.

Nightlife Spot: Durty Nelly's : Prop - Lolly and Bronwyn.
Irish Bar. Durty Nelly's is a bar that you may have to get the map out to find. However, a warm welcome from Lolly or Bronwyn awaits you when you do find it.
Draught Guinness, Murphys red and Amstel is served here.
The bar has a low lighting theme and if you are lucky, you may find live Irish music on if Gerry is in town. Both Lol and Bron have been friends of mine for years and I can firmly recommend this bar. "Good craic".
Price range: A bit higher than normal. Atmosphere: Great craic. Great for meeting people. Theme: Irish through and through. Great decor. Opening times:From 7.30 pm until about 1 am. Disabled notes:Too narrow for wheelchairs with complicated entrance doors.

Dress Code: N/A A little note: Sometimes you will see a bar appears to have two names. The LARGER one is usually the accepted name (but not always) of the bar. I think that you cannot remove a Spanish name from a bar (I may be wrong). Anyway it's a Spanish thing !
Examples are Jago's. Is also El Carillion. and The Coach & Horses. Is also El Bodegon.

Nightlife Spot: Blue Lagoon (Lago Azul)
International Bar. A warm welcome awaits you if you drop in to the Blue Lagoon. Try the breakfast - served until 6pm. for just €4. Other snacks are available too.
In good weather you can sit outside at the pavement tables. (Too hot for me in summer). Or chat at the bar.
Although Guinness is served here it is in cans but only €3 a can and you can guarantee it's in good condition. Also San Miguel on draught and all the usual spirits.
Sky TV helps keep you up with the news etc. back mome.
For a limited time, bottles of San Miguel are on offer at just €1 where they normally retail at anything between €1.30 to €3.00, depending upon the bar and its location in Nerja.
Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere:Good conversation and cosy. Theme:Predominantly blue decor. Opening times:From 11am until around 8pm and closed Mondays at present. Disabled notes:Warning ! Steep set of four steps up to the bar - not wheelchair friendly. As poor Clare, the bar owner at the time, found out when she broke her ankle at home at Christmas time. This bar has recently CHANGED OWNERSHIP August 2005.

Nightlife Spot: The Chapel Bar : Prop. - Lisa.
British Bar. A small but bright and airy little bar. This bar has changed out of all recognition to what it used to look like. Whether that is for the better or worse, you will have to make your own mind up. How many of you remember the days of the beamed ceiling and the spiral stairs by the entrance door and the fridge in the front window?
Price range: Unknown at this time. Atmosphere:Seems to have lost a lot of character. Theme:Wine bar style. Opening times: Closed all day on SATURDAYS. Disabled notes:Level access and wheelchair friendly toilets.

Nightlife Spot: Bar El Bosque
British Sports Bar. The Bosque has a large sunny terrace on the front of the bar which has the sun on it from early morning until after lunchtime and is very popular. One observation is that inside, there seems more room behind the bar than there is this side for customers!
Multi sports can be watched on TV here - at the same time and a horse racing bet may also be placed.
Bar food is also available here. The terrace is a firm favourite and I would advise going early to get a table outside.
Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere:Not a great deal of atmosphere but the sunny terrace makes up for it. Theme:The bar counter dominates inside. No real theme. opening hours:Mid morning until around 1:00pm. Disabled notes:Level access. The picture was part of another of the Acorn so I appologise for the poor quality of the 'blow up' of this part of that picture as this is the only shot I have at present of the bar El Bosque.

Nightlife Spot: Pie in the Sky : Prop. - Neville.
British Deli Bar. Pie in the Sky is an unconventional bar in the fact that it is now a delicatessen first and a bar second. Stocks of English bacon and sausages can be purchased here although a little pricy.
The Pie in the Sky used to be called "The Black Stuff" for those of you who have an old copy of Nerja Essential or have not been back for a while.
Draught Guinness and San Miguel are on draught.
This bar has just changed ownership November 2005.
This place is handy for dropping into when visiting the market on Tuesdays.
However there are moves afoot to relocate the Tuesday market to an area near El Zoco where the Sunday Car Boot has already gone to, which is right at the top (uphill) end of town (and then some) soon.
Price range: Drinks are good value for money but food, especially take home food for your fridge/freezer, is a bit over priced. Atmosphere:Good conversation. Theme:This is a deli bar and is kitted out as such. Opening times:From 11am 'til 7pm. Closed Sundays. Disabled notes:Level access with large toiets.
