Hanging with the Locals | Steve & Kathleen in Selcuk, Turkey |
On the way back to Selcuk from Ephesus, Kathleen and I split from the group to go see the Grotto of the Seven Sleepers. As we started back to the hotel, we met a man returning from work on his mini-bike, he told us we'd save ourselves 3 km if we'd take a short-cut with him. He then invited us to his home to meet his family, he had three daughters about our age, and we drank tea. Before leaving his daughters invited us to come back for "disco" that evening.... |
| Jessie & Friends at "Disco": Selcuk, Turkey |
| | The Disco At 10pm I returned, this time with Jessie, and we headed to the dance with the girls. It turned out to be a block party with a live band and much belly dancing. Everyone from little kids to old women were out there. I was practically attacked by a mob of middle-aged women doing some Turkish Lambada against me. Afterward we went back to the girls' house for tea where we hung out well past midnight. The next morning when I was at breakfast, my waiter recognized me from the dance! |
