Ancient Xian

by CLIFFORDK - last update: Mar 12, 2009

Xian is an amazing place. It was one of the capitals of ancient China, and you can still see (and walk on) the wall that surrounded the original city. Xian has a much different look and feel to it than Beijing or Shanghai. There are three main places I visited while in Xian, and I would recommend these sites to anyone visiting the city. Those three were the the Terracotta Army Museum, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Huaqing Pool (also known as Huaqing Hot Springs). Of course, the most memorable was the Terracotta Army. The sheer size in numbers of the army and the size of the hanger-type buildings (there are three) that house the soldiers was almost overwhelming. You can climb to the top of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and get a spectacular bird's-eye view of the city from four different angles. The Huaqing Pool is where the emperors and their families relaxed, and, though I did not do this, tourists may also take a dip in the hot springs.

Pros:"Lots of interesting things to do and see."
Cons:"Not quite as modern or up-to-date as Beijing or Shanghai."
In A Nutshell:"Another "must-see" for anyone visiting China."
