Kalekoy is a beautiful village, set on a small peninsula and as far as I know, you can only get there by boat. (Or you might have a troubling land journey) There are a lot of boats stopping there, small private ones as well big ones for tourist groups. We took our boat from Kas and made a few other stops on the way. It's a great spot for diving, there is a whole city you can see underwater. However, diving has been restricted in the recent years after some events of stealing, which is strictly forbidden in Turkey. It's forbidden to take any archeological items out of the the country.
Once you're off the boat, you'll need to climb to the top. It seems that the whole village has been set up in and around this castle, "kale" in Turkish, which gave this place its name.
This is a picture of my mom, just before climbing. I think this must be the last proper vacation we took together, along with a few more friends who joined us.
It was just a few weeks before I moved to New York City and my mom had already been living there for a year then.
So, honestly, it was the place to be while I was picking up the pieces of a heartbreaking relationship. Getting myself ready for the big move, recovering from a 2 year relationship...
As soon as we set foot on land, appeared all these kids selling what we call a "yemeni" in Turkish. It is this very thin fabric that is used by the local women while working at the fields or doing housework, to protect the hair from the sun and to keep it away from your face.
I'm wearing one in the picture actually!
This little girl especially, she had this huge smile on her face and I think she could speak German, English, Dutch a few other languages which she learnt simply by interacting with the tourists and selling yemenis. She was a charmer and I wonder what became of her today?

Hey, I was the first one to look at this fine new page! Is this the one that didn't work with Custom U-Build?
