Killarney Provincial Park, located near the east shore of Lake Huron's Georgian Bay, is a extensive and beautiful wilderness area. Known for its crystal-blue lakes, spectacular range of white quartzite ridges, white pine and hardwood forests, and boggy lowlands, its beauty and magnificent, unspoiled scenery has inspired many artists, including members of the Group of Seven. With its many lakes and an interconnecting network of rivers and portages, the park is a canoeists' paradise.
The pink granite seen here along the Georgian Bay coastline contrasts sharply with the white quarzite rock of the La Cloche Mountains.
Killarney Provincial Park boasts to having one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. The La Cloche Mountains were once higher than the Rocky Mountains before being eroded by the melting glaciers crossing the Canadian Shield.
The 10 day hike along the La Cloche Silhouette Trail affords great views of the Park's interior lakes.
