During my life the big and small cities that I have lived in have been New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Rome, Florence, Siena, and presently Paris. I love all of these cities and would live in any of them again, but for me nothing can beat New York, not even where I live at this moment and hope to live for more years to come.
The photo above is is on Broadway in Midtown. It isn't where I would like to live in Manhattan, but I love going there. I even love gaudy Times Square and all it's neon.
Many years ago I went to Parson's School of Design very near 42nd and 7th. I commuted there from Washington, DC, once a week for six months. When a friend of mine, a native New Yorker, found out that I walked from the school to the Port Authority Bus Station at 42nd and 8th he was horrified and told me that it was the most dangerous part of the city. I am happy to say that, thanks to former Mayor Guiliani, it has been cleaned up and is no longer as sleazy and dangerous as it once was.
Madison Square Garden, Penn Station, the Fashion District, Times Square, are all located in Midtown. It is a vibrant part of New York. Toys R Us has opened a fabulous new store in Midtown. It's a must for both children and adults. |

| | The Plaza I am sad to say that the Plaza is closing its doors on April 30th and is being converted into condos. It will include a small hotel as well. If you are in Manhattan before closure, you may want to stop in and have lunch at the restaurant in the court or a drink in the famous Oak Bar. At least take a peek at the tiny Eloise gift shop. For more information on its closure, check out these links: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6873041/ and http://www.eloisewebsite.com/
9/23/05 The Plaza is now closed as a hotel and they are working to convert it into condominiums. The owners have agreed to keep 348 rooms as hotel rooms. They will also retain the Grand Ballroom, the Palm Court, and the famous Oak Bar.
