FOURTH OF JULY IN BOSTON | Hatch Shell at the Esplanade on 4th of July |
JULY 2009 Boston hasn't changed since my last update, nor has my attitude. I can't say that I like it any better than before. It could be because I don't have a car and if you don't live in the city you are totally stuck. But I just haven't been able to figure out the lay of the land the way I was able to with New York and Paris. I have no sense of direction in this city.
The citizens do love their concerts on the Esplanade though and the 4th of July is especially big with the Boston Pops playing and an old rock star performing. Neil Diamond was the guest this year and in the past local, Steven Tyler, performed. Sorry I missed him, but I loved Neil Diamond and I don't care if some people think his music is cheesy. I like cheesy music. I even like Barry Manilow. Anyway, Neil still sings well and is in great shape physically, not all washed up looking like a lot of old rock starts of the 70's. He looks darn good.
July 2007 Well I am back in the Boston suburbs for a few months and I am without a car. This is the first time in years that I have lived somewhere where it is necessary to have a car. Suburban transportation here does not compare to that of New York and Paris. I have to walk over a mile and a half to take the train into the city and horror of horror there is not train on Sunday. Will continue to update this page from time to time while I am here.
July 2006 I am presently staying in the suburbs of Boston while waiting to go to California in August before settling in to my new temporary digs in New York. Just took one afternoon with my friend to have a delicious lobster salad at the Sea Catch restaurant overlooking the harbor. Then we walked over to Faneuil Hall before going home.
At the moment the "Big Dig" tunnel officially known as the Ted Williams tunnel is closed due to the fact that part of the roof fell. Believe it or not it was glued in with epoxy glue and bolts which were obviously not sufficiently strong to hold the slabs of concret up long term. |
